Adelaide St. closure extended to Pall Mall St.

Drivers whose commute takes them along Adelaide Street North through Old East Village are going to need to find a new route for the next three days.

Emergency sewer repairs combined with the planned watermain installation for the Adelaide Underpass has Adelaide Street between Dufferin Avenue and Pall Mall Street closed.

City officials had originally planned to perform the watermain installation near Elias Street between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. on Wednesday. However, an issue with the sewer just south of that area was discovered last Friday, leading to an emergency closure of Adelaide between Dufferin and Lorne avenues. With that repair work beginning Monday, the decision was made to push the planned watermain installation up as to minimize the time Adelaide would need to be closed.

The roadway is expected to reopen to traffic by the end of the day on Wednesday.

“We recognize this is a significant transportation impact in an already busy construction season. These repairs are needed to maintain safe and reliable infrastructure for the area,” the city said in a statement.

Drivers will be detoured around the closure using Hamilton Road, Highbury Avenue, and Oxford Street East. Local traffic will still be allowed north and south of Pall Mall Street and Dufferin Avenue, according to the city. London Transit is detouring its buses along Dufferin Avenue, William Street, and Pall Mall Street for the time being.

Those on foot will be able to get through during the work with pedestrian access to be maintained. Businesses will remain open.
