The Ontario government has approved tender for a $9.2-million expansion project at a Northwest London public school.
On Friday, the Thames Valley District School Board (TVDSB) announced it had received the green light from the Ministry of Education to issue tender for a new addition at Eagle Heights Public School, located at 284 Oxford St. W. The news includes $2 million of additional funding.
“This much-needed renovation will help address enrolment pressure facing schools in West London due to unprecedented growth in the city,” read a statement from TVDSB Director of Education Mark Fisher. “As one of the fastest growing communities in the board, we look forward to welcoming new families, and introducing them to the many unique programs we offer in Thames Valley.”
Last January, the school board announced the government had approved a $7.2-million expansion. The additional funding brings the renovation costs to a whopping $9.2-million to provide space for an additional 300 students. Eagle Heights P.S. was originally built for 680 students. However, it currently requires 18 portables to accommodate over 1,000 students from Kindergarten to Grade 8.
Community information sessions regarding architectural designs for the project finished in 2022. The estimated completion date of the expansion is January 2025, pending there are no hiccups with ministry and municipal approvals.
