A St. Thomas man was arrested in relation to a crash that left a backhoe, a pickup truck, and trailer in a large hole at a construction site.
At around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, police responded to a report of a collision in the area of Sunset Drive.
An investigation revealed the driver of a truck with a trailer attached to it, went around the road closure sign posted at the construction zone and hit an excavator that was blocking a 12 foot deep hole. As a result, both vehicles fell partially into the hole.
Investigators say when they arrived, the driver had managed to get themselves out of the disabled vehicle. He did not suffer any “apparent injuries” according to police.
While on scene, police formed grounds to arrest the driver for alleged impaired driving. The accused faces on charged of operation while impaired with a blood alcohol concentration exceeding 80 milligrams, one count of driving on a closed highway and one count of driving while operating a hand held device.
They 28-year-old man was taken back to St. Thomas police headquarters, processed and released with a future court date.
