New tech keeps South Bruce OPP busy

New Automated Licence Plate Recognition (ALPR) and In-Car-Camera (ICC) systems in all South Bruce OPP patrol vehicles is keeping officers busy.

Police have stopped 21 vehicles for infractions picked up by they new technology since March 14.

In all, officers found 13 vehicles with expired licence plate validations, eight vehicles had an unlicensed driver, four vehicles were operated by a suspended driver, and one one vehicle had unauthorized licence plates

South Bruce OPP believe the new system will enhance community and officer safety. It can gather evidence and provide an objective video recording of an interaction between an officer and member of the public.

The system can detect plates associated with wanted or missing people, stolen vehicles, stolen or unattached licence plates, suspended or prohibited drivers and Amber Alerts.
