The Director of Education for the Avon Maitland District School Board commented on the potential passing of the Better Schools and Student Outcomes Act.
Dr. Lisa Walsh says if the legislation that Education Minister Stephen Lecce announced on Monday, April 17 is passed, it will endeavour to strengthen reading, writing and math skills and ensure accountability and transparency for parents and families.
Dr. Walsh says students have always been at the centre of everything they do, and they will continue to strive for high academic achievement, provide support for learning and mental health needs, and ensure that all students have the supports to be successful as they transition towards the next phase of their lives. She adds they will await further direction and details from the Ministry of Education as the Act moves through the legislative process.
