Crews are starting work on the last phase of the Main Street reconstruction in Bayfield this week.
“We’re going to be doing sidewalks on the one side. The landscaping’s got to be still done, some trees still have to be planted,. There’s some additions that we’re going to put on, such as extending sidewalks here and there that, once we got into the project, decided it should be extended a little bit,” said Bayfield Ward councillor Bill Whetstone.
The last part of the reconstruction will be the final coat of pavement for the road so everything will even up to where the curb is now.
Whetstone says they’re hoping to have all of that done by the May long weekend.
“There may be smallish things here or there, but it’ll be good to go and we’re actually planning a grand re-opening and we’re looking at dates for sometime in June,” he said.
Whetstone says it’s important to get the work done by the Victoria Day weekend because that’s traditionally the beginning of the summer season for the shops.
