Dreaming of a new home? This one could be yours

Members of the public are now invited to come and see the two residences that are up for grabs in the spring Dream Lottery.

The winner will be able to choose from three grand prizes: the Royal Oak Dream Home, the Domus Dream Home package, or a $1-million cash prize.

The Royal Oak Dream Home is located at 247 Foxborough Place in Thorndale. The family-friendly abode contains three storeys, four bedrooms, three-and-a-half bathrooms, and over 4,000 square feet of space.

The house was built by Royal Oak Homes and designed by Jillian Summers. The residence comes fully furnished with pieces by Warehouse 74.

All in all, this prize package is valued at $1,474,500.

The second option, the Domus Dream Home, is a two bedroom, two-and-a-half bathroom bungalow in Port Stanley at 52-63 Compass Trail. It was built by Domus Developments, designed by Designing Spaces London, nd furnished by Austin & Taylor Home Furnishings.

Photographs and a virtual tour of the space are available on the Dream Lottery website.

If the winner opts for the Port Stanley residence, they will also receive a pretty penny on the side.

“[The Domus Dream Home] actually comes fully furnished as well as with $200,000 cash,” confirmed Heather McCarron with Dream Lottery. “We know people love the idea of Dream Homes but obviously homes cost a lot of money, so having the cash to come with it is a really nice take. And then you think of the location in Port Stanley, I mean, who doesn’t love the idea of being close to the beach, especially as the weather is starting to warm up.”

The Domus Dream Home package is valued at $1,100,000.

McCarron says while the Royal Oak home is big enough to fit a family, the Domus home is a smaller, ranch-style design that might appeal to couples, retired workers, or those looking for a cottage near the beach.

If the Dream Lottery winner opts for neither of these houses, they can instead take home a cash prize of $1-million.

Aside from the grand prizes, Dream Lottery players also have a chance to win a Harley Davidson motorcycle, valuable gift certificates, or a “Dream Salary,” which provides the winner with $1,000 every week for a full year.

Tickets are available now and sales are limited. Purchases can be made online at dreamitwinit.ca, over the phone at 519-488-7100, or in-person at one of the Dream Home sites.

McCarron advises that there is a “Loyalty deadline” coming up on April 27. If you buy your ticket before then, your name will be included in all of the draws this spring. These tickets are already 30% sold.

Dream Lottery has been a successful fundraiser for over 25 years in support of local hospitals – St. Joseph’s Health Care, London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC), and the Children’s Hospital.

“The proceeds from our lottery program – and by the way, it’s over $55 million dollars since its inception in 1996 – are divided amongst the three foundations, and therefore the hospitals, to use for whatever their highest priority needs are at any given time,” explained John MacFarlane, president and CEO of London Health Sciences Foundation. “So it supports things like specialized imaging equipment, cancer research, and other initiatives in the hospital that would otherwise not get supported. That’s why it’s so important.”

The Royal Oak and Domus Dream Homes are now open to the public for viewing. Open houses are being held from 12 – 7 p.m. over the long weekend. After Monday, regular hours will resume on Thursdays and Fridays from 2 – 7 p.m., and weekends from 12 – 5 p.m.

“For the first time in three years people can actually come into the homes, so we’re really excited about that,” MacFarlane added.
