The complex task of dismantling an illegal cannabis extraction lab in south London continued Thursday.
For a third straight day, investigators were back at 467 Commissioners Rd., east of Ridout Street. The drug lab was discovered inside a high-end home at that address on Tuesday. Officers outfitted in full hazmat suits have been seen onsite working ever since.
London police have said the dismantling process is complex, time-consuming, and requires many areas of expertise. Area residents have been advised they will see a heavy presence of emergency services at the home until the process is complete.
Police were initially called about a disturbance at the home around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday. They observed potentially hazardous materials and equipment at the scene and called the London Fire Department to assist in determining if there was a threat to public safety. Hours later, police confirmed there was no danger to area residents.
Two people were arrested.
One of those individuals has since been released unconditionally, while the other remains in custody on an unrelated drug and weapons matter, police said Thursday. No charges have been laid.
Once investigators have been able to fully examine all of the evidence at the scene an update in relation to the ongoing drug probe will be provided, police added.
