The province’s police watchdog is probing a crash on Highway 401 near Ingersoll that left a driver with serious injuries.
According to the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), Oxford OPP attempted to stop a speeding vehicle in the eastbound lanes of the highway around 5 p.m. on Thursday. The driver of the vehicle did not stop for officers and ended up losing control on the off-ramp to Highway 19.
The driver, a man whose age was not released, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
The SIU was notified about the incident and has invoked its mandate.
Investigators are looking to speak with anyone who witnessed or has dash camera footage of the crash. Anyone with information, can contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529. Video or photos can be submitted through the SIU’s website.
The SIU is an independent government agency that probes all incidents involving police that have resulted in death, serious injury, or allegations of sexual assault.
