North Perth has put together a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Advisory Committee to ensure municipal decision-making involves those ideals.
Now that the terms of reference have been approved, the municipality is searching for members to join the Advisory Committee.
It hopes diverse members of the community will volunteer to share their voices on the new committee. The committee will work with members of the municipality to ensure that North Perth follows through on a commitment to be a welcoming and inclusive rural community. Interested individuals can fill out an application form by Monday, April 3, 2023 at 12:00 p.m. to be considered as a member of the committee.
“As our community grows, we have the wonderful opportunity to continue our evolution as a gracious and welcoming community. I’ve been a strong advocate for North Perth’s commitment to diversity, equity, and anti-racism, and am delighted that we’ve sparked the creation of this important Committee to advise our efforts,” said Mayor Todd Kasenberg. “I welcome members of our community to engage with this important Committee.”
They hope to find residents to represent a broad range of under-served and equity seeking groups. The list includes Indigenous peoples, members of the 2SLGBTQ+ community, newcomers and new Canadians, people living in poverty, those with disabilities, and racialized people. Other possible under-served groups include people of Diverse Ethnic or Cultural Origin, those over 55, women, and youth.
The Council of the Municipality of North Perth adopted an adapted version of the Perth County Diversity, Equity and Anti-Racism Charter earlier this year.
