One of two men charged in the stabbing death of a 41-year-old man at a Kipps Lane apartment building will be back in court next week.
Devon Ferguson-Feit made a brief appearance at the London courthouse on Wednesday. He appeared by way of video from the Elgin Middlesex Detention Centre, wearing a jail-issued orange jumpsuit. The 28-year-old is charged with second degree murder in the March 11 death of Joel Cameron.
Cameron was found suffering from multiple stab wounds in the stairwell of the apartment building at 621 Kipps Lane around 5 a.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Four days later, London police announced charges against Ferguson-Feit.
Wednesday’s appearance lasted roughly four minutes, with Ferguson-Feit remaining relatively silent other than to state his date of birth and the correct spelling of his last name.
Defence Lawyer Rob Kitto requested the case be put over until next Wednesday in order to allow time to begin receiving initial disclosure from the Crown. Disclosure is evidence that the Crown and police have gathered to use against an accused individual in court. There is a publication ban on the evidence presented in the case.
Justice of the peace Monique Seguin agreed to the week long adjournment.
Ferguson-Feit will return to court via video on March 29.
Adrian Neil Campbell, the other man charged in Cameron’s murder, is scheduled to make his next appear in London court on Thursday.
Campbell is charged with second-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder.
The attempted murder charges are related to the shooting of two London police officers who were struck with the same bullet during a 12 hour standoff that followed Cameron’s death.
