Bruce Power receives national recognition for diversity initiatives

A local company has been named to Canada’s Best Diversity Employers for 2023.

In the competition’s 16th year, Bruce Power was one of several organizations recognized for their “exceptional workplace diversity and inclusiveness programs.”

“We’re proud of the work we’ve done in making Bruce Power an inclusive workplace and providing positive experiences and opportunities for everyone,” said Cathy Sprague, Bruce Power’s executive vice-president of human resources. “Fostering a diverse and talented workforce allows us to power our communities and Ontario forward through inspired collaboration and innovation and build a workplace where we can all flourish.”

Canada’s Best Diversity Employers are evaluated based on a company’s initiatives for women, members of visible minorities, people with disabilities, Indigenous peoples, and members of the LGBTQIA+ community.

Diversity, equity, and inclusion have become a major area of focus for Bruce Power over the last several years. The company said they are committed to attracting and promoting diverse talent. Doing so has helped Bruce Power “[drive] business results”

According to staff editors from Mediacorp Canada Inc. – who are responsible for selecting winners – Bruce Power has gone above and beyond in their efforts to support young people entering the workforce. They offer students opportunities like professional mentoring and interning in their chosen field.

Bruce Power also has specific programs for Indigenous peoples and women. The company plans events to increase Indigenous awareness in the community and to hire employees from an Indigenous background. They also partner with Ontario Tech to offer unique internships in the nuclear power industry to empower students who identify as women.
