West Grey property taxes up about six per cent

West Grey council passed a 2023 municipal budget which will add about $72.50 per $100,000 of assessment for a residential home. That’s an overall tax hike of just under six per cent.

The budget passed Tuesday includes a tax levy increase for 2023 of $1,143,153.  For an average West Grey residential property assessed at $258,000 this means a monthly increase of  approximately $15.60 in 2023.

Mayor Keven Eccles  believes the  budget focuses on maintaining infrastructure, investing in community development and delivering municipal programs and services to West Grey’s growing community.

“The 2023 budget balances the maintenance of municipal services with sound investments into the future of our community,” said Mayor Kevin Eccles. “I want to thank council for their thoughtful deliberation and collaboration in establishing a municipal budget that addresses priorities and makes important investments in our transportation network, facilities and community services.”

The 2023 budget consists of operating and capital investments, including:
• Replacement of three bridges/culverts
• New tandem plow truck for Normanby public works depot
• Neustadt water tower refurbishment
• Installation of LED lighting over the floor surfaces at three arenas
• Completion of a mobile household hazardous waste unit for landfills
• New police station tendering and construction
• Computer technology for fire fighter training
• Community Improvement Plan grants for business revitalization
