Swoop quietly suspends remaining flights from London to Florida

Those who had plans to fly Swoop Airlines’ London to Orlando, Florida route later this month received an email this week informing them that their flight was cancelled.

The airline, owned by WestJet, sent out an email to customers with flights booked from London International Airport (YXU) to Orlando Sanford International Airport (SFB) on certain dates, informing them their flights were cancelled due to the route being suspended without reason.

According to the airline’s website, the last available date to fly with Swoop from the Forest City to the Sunshine State is Thursday, March 23. Swoop confirmed the cancellation in an email statement that service was initially scheduled to end several weeks later, on April 30, 2023.

“Travellers with flights booked after that date [March 23] have been notified by email and offered a refund to the original form of payment or the option to be rebooked on an alternate Swoop flight from Hamilton (YHM) or Toronto (YYZ) to Orlando Sanford (SFB) at no additional cost,” read a statement from Swoop. “It is never our intention to disrupt our travellers’ plans, and we understand how impactful these changes can be. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and are committed to providing travellers with as much notice as possible, re-accommodation options, or a full refund.”

Swoop did not respond to a question from LondonNewsToday.ca on if it plans to resume flights from London to Orlando sometime next year.

Currently, Swoop offers flights from YXU to Cancun International Airport (CUN). However, flight dates for that seasonal route will end by April 14, 2023.

Earlier this week, Swoop announced it would begin offering flights from London to Abbotsford, British Columbia for several months this summer.
