Cost of garbage bag tags increasing in Kincardine

The Municipality of Kincardine has increased the cost of garbage bag tags by 150 per cent to $3.50 apiece.

The major increase was approved by council at a recent budget meeting, where they noted that the increase will generate an additional $160,000 in additional revenue this year.

“It’s been some time since there’s been an increase to the cost of bag tags” says Director of Infrastructure and Development Adam Weishar. “We continue to explore possibilities to improve our waste collection, recycling and composting options, and there are programs in place to help reduce the waste going to the curb in garbage bags.”

The increase to bag tags will help offset approximately 78 per cent of the program’s operating expenses, with the general tax base covering the remaining 22 per cent.
