Witnesses sought in downtown brawl

London police are seeking witnesses to a physical assault in the downtown core last weekend that sent a man to hospital with serious injuries.

Officers were called to an area of Dundas Street, east of Richmond Street, at around 1:20 a.m. on February 19, after a man was reportedly kicked out of a business for causing a disturbance.

Police say the suspect continued to cause a scene once outside and allegedly punched another man who was nearby. Investigators were told the victim was knocked to the ground, which is when witnesses called emergency services.

The accused was identified and arrested by police not far from the scene at around 1:30 a.m.

Paramedics arrived and transported the victim to the hospital where he remains as of Thursday according to police. Officers say the two men were not familiar with one another.

A 32-year-old London man has since been charged with one count of aggravated assault. He was scheduled to appear in court on Thursday.

Investigators believe there are several individuals who might have witnessed the incident who they have not spoken with. Anyone with information or video footage of the assault is asked to call police at (519) 661-5670 or leave an anonymous tip with London Elgin Middlesex Crime Stoppers.
