Residents now know the scope and size of a planned reconstruction of a street in Dundalk this summer.
The Township of Southgate held an open house last week that detailed the reconstruction of Victoria Street in Dundalk, with Mayor Brian Milne saying that this should mitigate issues in Dundalk when it comes to water pressure.
“Low water pressure in Dundalk has been a long-standing issue for some people” said Milne, who says the reconstruction of Victoria Street will likely cost somewhere around $5,000,000. “This is a full rebuild of the street from the bottom of the pipes to the top of the asphalt.”
Milne says that at the west end of town, many residents are currently on septic systems, and notes he is against “forcing” those residents to link up when the project is completed. He noted there are residents that recently purchased new septic systems in that area, but wants to make it possible for those to hook up in the future if they choose to do so.
“This project is being funded through the community infrastructure program, and includes funding from both the federal and provincial governments, so that makes this project more achievable for Southgate” said Milne.
Southgate’s mayor says he realizes that the project may cause some headaches for residents in the area, but he intends to work with the contractor “to make sure we’re doing the best we can to mitigate any inconveniences to residents.”
