Lions donate 400 pairs of eyeglasses for Sri Lanka trip

At a Kincardine Lions social gathering held at Bar Down on Jan. 17, the club presented doctors Gary Gurbin, Damian Gunaratne and dentist Miranda Deller-Quinn with a case of refurbished eyeglasses for their upcoming trip to Sri Lanka. The trio are amongst 19 medical and support staff going in February this year. The mission is arranged by VIMM — Volunteers In Medical Missions.
The doctors had asked the Kincardine Lions for assistance to provide people with eyeglasses. The club stepped up and arranged with CLERC (Canadian Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center) to obtain 400 sets of reading glasses for distribution.
The used eyeglasses that Lions Clubs collect are sent to CLERC where they are inspected, cleaned, measured, labeled and packaged by Lion volunteers. Read More
