NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh said Wednesday that the federal government is using the Bank of Canada to wage a war on workers, blaming workers’ wages for inflation.
Singh pointed out most people’s pay is not even keeping up with higher costs of living. but corporations continue to rake in huge profits.
But Singh said Prime Minister Justin Trudeau refuses to put a stop to that with a windfall tax to put a stop to “greedflation.”
“A windfall tax that could be used as a disincentive to gouge shoppers. He said nope, too simplistic, can’t do it. Seriously? Other governments across the world have stood up to corporate greed with a windfall tax including the United Kingdom even under a Conservative Government because it works,” he explained.
Singh also said Trudeau is leaving the average Canadian to fend for themselves, when he should be speaking out against the privatization of health care.
“There is something standing in the way of cuts, and privatization, and for profit corporations squeezing workers pay cheques and attacking their rights. And it’s not Justin Trudeau. It’s working people and their unions and the NDP and the power of solidarity,” he added.
