The London Fire Department is in mourning following the passing of one of its district chiefs on Christmas Eve.
On Friday, the London Professional Fire Fighters Association (LPFFA) announced District Chief (DC) Andre Jongepier passed away suddenly at home last Saturday at the age of 60.
According to his obituary, Jongepier began his firefighter career in London 32 years ago. He also played hockey with the fire department brother’s team and was a member of the peer support team.
“DC Jongepier had a smile and ‘hello’ for all,”Fire Chief Lori Hamer wrote in a tweet. “His positivity, compassion and devotion to his career serving the citizens of London was remarkable.”
Jongepier leaves behind his wife of 31 years and three children.
