Huron-Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson presented Huron’s Emergency Services Chief with a cheque for the Ontario Land Ambulance Services Grant from the Province Tuesday.
Jeff Horseman said the cheque for almost $6.5 million is for 2022.
“The allocation was an increase over the 2021 funding and it will help with our normal operational budget and help us start planning for future changes with respect to call volume increases and deployment changes that will be needed in the future,” said Horseman.
“Inflation this year is quite a bit higher than most of us would expect and usually we don’t see those types of increases until the year following. So the inflationary increase that has hit us already in 2022 won’t be realized until probably 2023,” he added.
Horseman said their call volume will likely be increased significantly in the next few years as more seniors who are retiring move into the area because the aging population tends to put more demands on the healthcare system generally.
