Public safety warning issued after ex-London cop released from custody

The London Police Service has issued a public safety warning regarding a 46-year-old former officer who has been charged with over a dozen criminal offenses in the last month.

He was released from custody on Thursday.

Stephen David Williams, a former London police constable, has racked up an alarming number of criminal charges since 2017, including sexual assault, harassment, and theft, according to court documents. Police say the accusations involve multiple female victims.

Williams was suspended from the police service from 2017 until 2021, when he finally resigned. His suspension in 2017 came after he was charged with sexually assaulting an ex-girlfriend. He was later charged by Waterloo police with criminal harassment, making harassing phone calls, and being unlawfully in a dwelling. Those charges stemmed from incidents involving a different ex-girlfriend.

Most recently, the ex-cop was arrested on November 23, 2022 and charged with sexual assault, two counts of criminal harassment, uttering threats, and being unlawfully in a dwelling. Just days before, records show that Williams was arrested and charged with harassment by watching.

As of Thursday, Williams was released from custody, prompting London police to issue a warning to the public. According to police, Williams has a habit of meeting women through online dating platforms and social media sites using aliases such as Will Stevenson, Will Stephens, and Will Si.

“Investigators believe that there may be additional victims, and request that anyone who has any additional information contact the London Police Service,” police said in a statement released Friday.

The warning also provided a physical description of the suspect. He is described as a white male with blue eyes, approximately 6’1” and 230 lbs with a muscular build. Recent photos indicate that Williams is sporting a shaved head and a full brown beard. Police are advising the public to not engage with the accused.

Williams is scheduled to appear in court on December 22 in relation to the recent charges.
