Murder charge laid in Woodstock stabbing

A charge of second degree murder has been laid in the stabbing death of a 59-year-old in Woodstock earlier this week.

Woodstock police responded to a report of a dispute on Fyfe Avenue shortly after 2:15 a.m. on Tuesday. When officers arrived on scene they found the unidentified 59-year-old suffering from multiple stab wounds. That individual was taken to hospital where they were pronounced dead.

A 56-year-old Woodstock resident was arrested in relation to the death just before noon the same day. On Thursday, police announced Paul Gerard Fitzgerald of Woodstock has been charged with second degree murder.

Police have not said whether Fitzgerald and the victim knew each other prior to the dispute.
