Municipality looking for clarity regarding More Homes Built Faster Act

The municipality of Bluewater held a special council meeting this week to discuss its concerns about the Ford government’s More Homes Built Faster Act.

Mayor Paul Klopp says one of their major concerns is the effect on development fees that municipalities charge.

“Regarding how we then get funding for future projects, they want to reduce what we get in development fees and in money we get from businesses or from individuals when they build a house and we’re asking then, ‘are they going to make up the difference?’,” Klopp said.

Klopp added they’re concerned about the process with re-zoning.

“We are a little concerned about the process with re-zoning and how the public has a say in those discussions. We understand the government is trying to streamline the process and we’re not against that, we just want a few of these things clarified,” Klopp said.

At the end of the day, Klopp says they just want to make sure that the municipality and the taxpayers are not left having to pay for things that normally would be covered by the person doing the building.
