Perth County Tourism wins prestigious provincial award

Perth County’s Economic Development and Tourism department has been recognized with a special provincial award.

Perth County Tourism Officer Ashley Lansink says the award was from the Tourism Industry Association of Ontario, and Perth County won an Ontario Tourism Resiliency Award in the innovation category for their Discover More Adventures program. Lansink says the program was launched in partnership with local business owners as a means of bouncing back from COVID, but also helping to showcase the many adventures that can be had in the county. Lansink says there are a few adventures on tap for fall and winter, like alpaca walking at TLC Alpaca near Mitchell, and many more.

“Our latest launch is at Windbreak Farms, and there you can go meet Bob and Kathy, the owners, and they will teach you about the trees and then you go into the shop and you can make your own charcuterie board or bird house, which is really cool,” Lansink says.

The program was successful because as Lansink says, businesses reached out to the county to try and better showcase the adventures available to people, and the tourism department ran with their ideas.

“If anything, a positive I hope will come out of this recognition is additional businesses reaching out, we’re always looking to add new experiences to this program so I’m really excited to see what will come out of this moving forward,” Lansink notes.

There’s an easy way for any other businesses to pitch their own ideas to the Perth County Tourism department.

“Anyone who has an idea that they wanna talk to me about, and how it can come to life, or if they just wanna learn more about the program, and see if it’s the right fit for them, there’s a form you can fill out on our website where all the experiences are showcased, which is PerthCounty.ca/DiscoverMoreAdventures,” Lansink says.

Lansink adds you can contact her at alansink@perthcounty.ca to pitch a new adventure.

“It is such an honour to be recognized provincially for this program that so many inspiring entrepreneurs and business owners are at the heart of,” Lansink adds. “We are incredibly proud of the Discover More Adventures program and even more proud to say that Perth County has a collection of exciting, award-winning, tourism experiences to offer the world.”

The program was launched in the summer of 2021, and since launching, 14 signature experiences have been unveiled as part of the Discover More Adventures program.
