The Wellington County Museum and Archives will host a pair of events leading up to Remembrance Day.
Over 500 markers will be placed on the front lawn of the property, and each marker will bear a name, honouring Wellington County’s fallen from the First World War, the Second World War, Korea, and Afghanistan. Two events will be held at the museum. On November 3 at 10 a.m., Royal Canadian Legion Members will read the names of each of the fallen from Wellington County at the Remembrance Ceremony. It will be held on the front lawn of the property, followed by a reception.
Also, on November 10 at 5:30 p.m., a remembrance candle will be placed at each memorial marker as a tribute to the fallen from Wellington County. Candles will be provided by the Museum and will remain lit until November 12, burning throughout
Remembrance Day.
“We hope as many people as possible will join us for both remembrance events,” says Activity Programmer Kyle Smith. “For those unable to join us in person, we have a Wellington County Remembers Database, launched in 2020, available on our website. The database brings the names on the markers to life through photographs, letters, attestation papers, and service records.”
