North Huron’s new mayor ready to get to work

New North Huron Mayor Paul Heffer says he is ready to get to work.

After being elected on Monday night, Heffer says he expects a good working relationship with council.

“I can get along with people, and I have a good rapport with them. I also need to be committed to having the new council working with me,” he said.

Heffer told CKNXNewsToday.ca he wanted to ensure the municipality focuses on asset management.

“We have a small population so we have to spend accordingly. And I feel by doing that, we will provide adequate services for our community,” he added.

He also wanted to foster stronger relationships with municipal neighbors.

“Because we’re a small municipality, we have to work together to make some of these goals on the project feasible for us,” he explained.

Heffer was elected as a first-term Councillor for the Wingham Ward during the 2018 municipal election.

Heffer defeated incumbent Bernie Bailie, councillor Trevor Seip, and newcomer Ranko Markeljevic in Monday’s municipal election.
