Acting Mayor Myles Murdock can now remove the acting part from his title. Murdock was elected Mayor of Goderich on October 24.
Murdock says he believes that housing is going to be the biggest challenge in the next four years.
“We need a greater inventory and more choice and we have to find a way to create some choice that’s going to satisfy the people that are earning the last amount of money and that’s going to be the struggle, but I’m positive that we’re going to achieve it,” Murdock stated.
Murdock says that’s particularly important given the labour shortage in the town and in the entire county. He says employers are desperately looking for help but people aren’t going to move into the area to take the jobs if there’s no place for them to live.
“It’s not going to be easy, but I’m confident that there are some ways to free up some housing and I’m confident that we can come up with something that’s creative and working with the county and developers that we can come up with something that’s more affordable,” added Murdock.
Murdock adds, that means something that people earning the least amount of money can afford.
