Construction on the main street in Bayfield resumed the week after Labour Day and Bayfield Ward councillor, Bill Whetstone says, so far, they’re still on schedule and on budget.
Whetstone says the main street merchants were generally happy with the way things went during the summer shutdown and now it’s back to work on the revitalization.
“So right now they’ve already got some of the sidewalks poured, they’ve got some curbing done on the one side, trees are coming in this week to be planted on the one side and then they’re going to be working on the opposite side with the intention of having pretty much everything completed by the end of November,” Whetstone shared.
Whetstone says they’ve got some really unique lighting coming in, too.
“We’ve got some really unique lighting coming in as well, for the pedestrian lighting, which really is heritage looking. That’s going to be happening over the next few weeks too. The Hydro has been run underground and it’s being hooked up to the various shops, so those polls will be coming out of there in the next little while as well,” said Whetstone
Whetstone says they’ll work as late into the winter as the weather allows and if the weather cooperates, what’s left in the spring will just be laying the final layer of asphalt, cleaning up and putting the final touches on the revitalization.
