Lake Huron Coastal Centre gets Resilient Communities grant

The MPP for Huron Bruce has presented the Lake Huron Coastal Centre with a cheque for $36,000  rom the Ontario Trillium Foundation new Resilient Communities Fund.

Coastal Centre Executive Director Erin Lawrie said the Coastal Centre is a registered charity and the pandemic was really hard on them as it was with most of the sector.

“A lot of charities didn’t survive the pandemic and it’s just been really challenging for the sector overall and the Ontario Trillium Foundation recognized that this was a problem and they established a new granting program recently called the Resilient Communities Fund,” said Lawrie.

Lawrie says the new fund was created to help organizations that were affected by the pandemic and support some of their short and long term recovery projects. Lawrie says the grant received by the Lake Huron Coastal Centre will help them to bring on some marketing, fund-raising and human resources professionals.

“[It will] help us take a look at our current strategies and then expand on those, come up with new strategies going forward. So really it’ll just help our organization to recover from the pandemic and build some resiliency going forward,” Lawrie said.

Lawrie added, as a charity, they are vulnerable in difficult times and depend very heavily on corporate and individual donors.
