Wellington North begins looking into future operations centre

The Township of North Wellington received information on what a potential future operations centre could look like in Arthur.

Matt Aston, the township’s Director of Operations, says the initial report was meant to begin an investigation into how a future operations centre could come together.

“That will allow us to know what size of a property we need to pursue in Arthur. Right now as staff, we and the township don’t think we have a property in hand that would make sense. We kind of need to develop the footprint of what an appropriately sized building would be to come to terms with, ‘this is how much land we’re gonna need in the future to build an appropriately sized operations centre’,” Aston said.

Aston says for now, a new operations centre will be shelved as the township prepares for other more urgent needs.

“There’s probably a recreation need, and there’s also a water tower and a future Arthur well that’s gonna be required that’ll all need land, and over the next several months, staff are gonna bring reports to council that’ll again, kind of give an indication of how much land we need,” Aston added.

He says there will have to be a lot more planning and investigation before they move forward on potentially building an operations centre.

“We would require budget approval to do that, and the land purchase would be the next thing that would happen for the operations centre, but the land purchase we’re looking to coordinate is going to be done in conjunction with a few other departments at the township,” Aston said.
