Two people are accused of breaking into a northeast London home, where just hours earlier a man was shot.
London police were called about a break and enter in progress at the home on Flanders Row, south of the intersection of Highbury Avenue and Cheapside Street, around 9 p.m. on Wednesday. When officers arrived they found two people leaving from the rear of the home. The pair were arrested without incident.
A search turned up a loaded shotgun, one gram of fentanyl, and one morphine pill.
A 36-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman, both from London, are charged with two counts of careless storage of a firearm, prohibited device or ammunition, possession of a restricted or prohibited firearm, possession of a loaded regulated firearm, and possession of a firearm knowing the serial number has been tampered with.
The woman is additionally charged with possession of drugs and breach of probation. The man is also charged with possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order.
Both of the accused were scheduled to appear in London court on Thursday.
Police confirmed the home where the break-in occurred is the same one where a man was found suffering from non-life threatening gunshot wounds early Wednesday morning. A suspect in the shooting took off before police arrived and an arrest has yet to be made. Investigators believe the shooting was targeted and the investigation remains “active and ongoing.”
The shooting and break and enter are being treated as two separate incidents, as such they are separate investigations, police said.
