The ongoing Artist in Residence series at the St. Marys Station Gallery will soon feature a bird carving demonstration.
On Saturday, September 17 from 1-4 p.m., artists and professional bird carvers Ross and Barbara Scriver will be at the Station Gallery to share their expertise. The Scrivers have been actively involved in the Grand Valley Bird Carving Association of which Ross is the president. The association hosts the largest bird carving competition of bird carvers in Canada. Decorative bird carving enthusiasts will be able to come and ask questions and see demonstrations of bird carvings for the afternoon.
Decorative bird carving has evolved over the years into a true artistic hobby from the early days of carving birds as a means of decoys for hunting.
Saturday is also ‘En Plein Air’ day at the gallery, which will take place outside, weather permitting.
