Former Goderich councillor, Michele Hansen, has been appointed to represent Goderich at county council for the remainder of the current term, following the sudden passing of Goderich Mayor, John Grace.
Hansen returned to Goderich council at the end of May.
“So I was appointed to Goderich council with the passing of Jim Donnelly. The first in-person meeting that Goderich town council had was the first meeting in June. I was appointed the last meeting in May and I attended the first meeting in June and I’ve been sitting at Goderich town council since.”
Hansen explains, with the passing of Mayor, John Grace, Deputy Mayor, Myles Murdock became the acting Mayor for the rest of this term and that meant council had to appoint someone to sit on county council.
“As it turns out, everybody in the chambers, except myself, was running for election this coming October. And an appointment could look like an endorsement and we didn’t believe that council should, in fact, be influencing the next election.”
