Don’t let parking woes keep you from getting vaxxed: health unit

The Middlesex London Health Unit is hoping people in need of the COVID-19 vaccine won’t let some upcoming parking challenges at its mass vaccination clinic prevent them from getting the shot.

As of Tuesday, there will be no parking available in the parking lot on the south side of Florence Street next to the Western Fair Agriplex COVID-19 mass vaccination clinic.

Preparations for the Western Fair, which gets underway next Friday, will keep the lot closed for two weeks.

“Even though it may be a little more challenging to get to our clinic during Western Fair, we encourage people to still book appointments to get the COVID-19 vaccine, especially with this week’s announcement about booster doses for five to 11 year-olds,” said Tracey Gordon, the health unit’s manager of vaccine preventable diseases. “With school starting next week and COVID-19 still spreading in the community, it is important to be up to date with the vaccine doses you’re eligible for. We also hope fairgoers will take advantage of the opportunity to get vaccinated while visiting the Western Fair.”

The province opened up third dose appointment bookings for children aged 5 to 11 on Thursday. To be eligible for the first booster shot, a child must be at least six months removed from their second dose of the vaccine.

While the parking lot on the south side of Florence will be closed for the duration of the fair, there will still be a limited number of free spots available on the north side of Florence.

The health unit encouraged those who have booked appointments who are concerned about parking to consider using other modes of transportation to get to the clinic. Those include using public transit, taking a taxi, walking, or biking to the Agriplex. Appointments can also be cancelled and rescheduled online at www.covidvaccinelm.ca or by phone at 226-289-3560.
