A new United Church will form in Palmerston later this month after the decision was made to amalgamate two congregations.
The new James Street United Church will be formed through the amalgamation of the Moorefield United Church and Palmerston United Church.
The Moorefield church was founded in 1868, and will hold its closing service on September 11 at 10:30 a.m., while the Palmerston church was established two years prior, and its closing service will be held on September 18 at 10:30 a.m.
The Service of Constitution for the new James Street United Church is set to be held on September 25 at 10:30 a.m., and will be led by Rev. Colin Snyder, who is currently a minister at United Churches in Wingham and Bluevale. As a part of this service, renewed and repaired stained glass windows will be dedicated.
Officials have cited declining attendance and an ageing congregation as reasons for the amalgamation.
