Community rallying around fundraiser started by woman who was lost to cancer

A fundraiser started by a Listowel woman who was lost to cancer is being rallied around by Midwestern Ontario people and businesses.

Heidi Schlumpf was diagnosed with Triple Negative metastatic breast cancer in April of 2021. She decided to try and use her diagnosis and turn it into something positive, launching a fundraiser for the Listowel Wingham Hospital Alliance and London Regional Cancer Program with the London Health Sciences Foundation. Her goal was $100,000, and Maple Lane Haven event Centre In Huron East allowed her to use their property to host her cancer research fundraiser. Tragically, Heidi recently passed away on August 10th after a courageous battle with cancer at the Listowel Memorial Hospital. She was a mother of 4 and beloved wife of Remo Schlumpf.

Her fundraiser has nearly reached her original $100,000 mark, and many local area businesses and residents are challenging the community to help the fundraiser hit its goal by September 8th, Heidi’s birthday. Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer that affects women around the world. If you wish to donate to Heidi’s fundraiser in her memory, please click here.

At the time of writing, the fundraiser had less than $10,000 needed to hit Heidi’s $100,000 goal.
