Londoners looking to escape the cold this winter will once again be able to do so out of the London International Airport.
Airport officials announced on Monday both Sunwing and Air Transat will resume direct flights from London to Cancun, Punta Cana, and Varadero in December. The flights will be offered weekly until April 13.
“We are very much looking forward to the return of Sunwing and Air Transat flights this winter to the sunny southern destinations,” airport President Scott McFadzean said in a statement. “Direct flight to sun destinations have been very popular in past and after two long winters restricted by COVID-19, we look forward to providing options again to our travelling guests.
By saving area residents the drive to larger airports, like Toronto Pearson Airport, the option to fly out of London helps eliminate a lot of the stress of travel and saves time and money, added McFadzean.
The flight scheduled for the winter months for the two charter airlines is as follows:
Sunwing:
London to Punta Cana weekly on Wednesdays from December 14, 2022 to April 12, 2023
London to Cancun weekly on Thursdays from December 15, 2022 to April 13, 2023
London to Varadero weekly on Fridays from December 16, 2022 to April 14, 2023
Air Transat:
London to Cancun weekly on Saturdays from December 24, 2022 to April 29, 2023
London to Punta Cana weekly on Sundays from December 25, 2022 to April 30, 2023
The return of the winter getaway flights from Sunwing and Air Transat is another sign the airport is bouncing back from the COVID-19 pandemic that saw nearly all flights grounded. In June, it was announced ultra-low fare airline Flair will be offering weekly flights from London to Tucson, Arizona this winter.
