Driver charged after cyclist killed on 401

Provincial police say a Brantford man is now facing charges in connection with a collision on Highway 401 that claimed the life of cyclist.

Emergency crews were called about a serious crash in the eastbound lanes of the highway at Colonel Talbot Road just after 5:15 a.m. on Thursday. Police determined that a cyclist had been hit by a passing vehicle. The cyclist, 55-year-old Steven Panula of no fixed address, was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to police, the driver of the vehicle did not stop and was attested at another location.

Ramandeep Dhesi, 33, of Brantford is charged with failing to stop at the scene of an accident causing death and failing to remain at the scene of an accident.
