Ontario Provincial Police out with a reminder that while some crops are beautiful at this time of the year, many can be easily damaged due to unwanted trespassing.
OPP in Dufferin County say there was multiple occurrences over the Canada Day long weekend of people stopping at the side of a highway and entering Canola fields to take photos.
Fields containing crops are not required to have fences or signage to deter people from entering, as stated in the Trespass to Property Act.
Entering a field, whether on foot or with a vehicle, including off-road vehicles, is trespassing.
If a person damages crops, then a criminal charge of Mischief could be considered by a responding officer.
If anyone observes someone trespassing on agricultural property, they should contact police immediately.
