St. Thomas police officers assaulted in front of homeless shelter

A 37-year-old woman is accused of assaulting and spitting on police officers who asked her to leave the grounds of a St. Thomas homeless shelter.

Police were called to the Inn at 10 Princess Avenue on Tuesday about an unwanted person who refused to leave. Officers asked the individual several times to go, but she refused.

According to police, the woman threw her bag at officers before proceeding to hit one and spit on another.

The woman was arrested.

A St. Thomas woman has now been charged with assaulting police, assaulting police with a weapon, failure to comply with a probation order, possession of drugs, and failure to leave a premise when directed.

She was released from police custody with a future court date.
