Emergency room at Listowel hospital closed overnight Canada Day

The Emergency Department at the Listowel Memorial Hospital will be temporarily closed between July 1 and July 2.

It’s because of staffing shortages that includes nurses, doctors and laboratory and support staff.

The ER at the Listowel hospital will be closed from 5 p.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Saturday.

“We have to adjust services based on the number of staff available,” stated Karl Ellis, President and CEO. “For the last two years, our staff have gone above and beyond and now need a break. We simply cannot ask them to do more.”

Patients are asked to call 911 if they have a medical emergency. Emergency Medical Services will remain available to the community and will be re-routed to surrounding hospitals.

For non-urgent health care call Health Connect Ontario at 811, which is available 24/7 for non- emergency health-related questions.

The releasts points to the closest hospitals to Listowel which include Wingham, Palmerston, Stratford and Kitchener-Waterloo.
