15-year-old girl charged with assaulting London police officer

A 15-year-old girl is among four teens charged after a disturbance that saw knives and drugs seized and a London police officer assaulted.

The officer was alerted by a citizen to a disturbance in the area of Fanshawe Park Road East and North Centre Road just before midnight on Friday. As the officer approached, he was informed by witnesses that the individuals involved had weapons.

The officer asked one of the young men involved to remove his hands from a satchel he was carrying that had an object protruding from it. The male refused and the officer attempted to arrest him. It was at this time, a number of other teens tried to intervene and a teenaged girl grabbed at the satchel and allegedly assaulted the officer. She was arrested.

The other teens began closing in on the officer, yelling obscenities.

Additional police were called to the area and arrested two more suspects.

No injuries were reported, but a search turned up two knives and an undisclosed quantity of drugs, police said.

A 15-year-old girl is charged with two counts of obstructing a peace officer and assaulting a peace officer.

A 15-year-old boy is charged with two counts of possession of drugs, possession of a weapon, and failure to comply with an undertaking.

Two 17-year-olds, a male and a female, are charged with obstructing a peace officer.

None of the four teens arrested can be named because of their age. All have been released from custody with future court dates.
