Fire causes more than $100K damage to southeast London townhouse

One person was sent to hospital after a townhouse fire in southeast London.

Firefighters were called to the residence at 62 Vinewood Crt. just west of Pond Mills Road around 5:30 a.m. on Saturday. When crews arrived they found thick smoke coming from the second storey of the home.

A resident, who managed to escape the fire before firefighters were on scene, was taken to hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation.

Damage is estimated at more than $100,000, fire officials said.

Fire investigators are expected to be at the townhouse complex for much of the day Saturday working to determine the “origin, cause and circumstances” of the blaze.

The townhouse fire came a day after another blaze caused an estimated $75,000 damage to a home on Pawnee Road. That fire broke out just before 6 p.m. on Friday and all residents of the home made it out safely. The investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
