On Friday, June 10, approximately 25 planes carrying a total of 35 people flew into the Kincardine airport between 10a.m., and 2p.m., for conversation and a quick lunch at the Cheesy Monkii. It’s a good thing travelling by air cuts off approximately an hour from everybody’s travel time!
The Trillium Group was inspired by founder Ivan Kristensen after a trip to Florida in 2019. The idea behind the group is for plane enthusiasts to meet online and, when the opportunity arrives, fly into different airports across Ontario to catch up in-person.
“I brought the idea back with me from Florida,” said Kristensen, who hails from Kitchener. “It’s definitely more for retirees, as we usually meet during the day, throughout the week.”
“The group was very small at first, and it’s grown far past my expectations,” he continued. “There are more people at every outing. By the end of 2019 we had 25-30 people, and today we just met number 277.”
For one pilot, meeting in Kincardine brought back fond memories.
“I met my wife, Vera, in Kincardine,” said Gord Miller of Guelph. “She was from Lucknow, but we met at a dance at the Pavillion in 1969. My father said it would never last, but this year we will be celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary!”
In its fourth year since its inception, this particular visit was their second meeting of 2022.
