Ultra-low fare airline touches down in London

London-area residents will be able to get to Arizona for less than the cost of a tank of gas.

The London International Airport announced on Tuesday ultra-low fare airline Flair will be offering weekly flights from London to Tucson, Arizona this winter.

“It is huge to get a new airline to come to our airport. That does not happen often,” said airport president and CEO Scott McFadzean. “It’s a huge investment for [Flair] to set up a new service, in a new city. We’re really excited about the partnership and looking forward to building on it and adding more and more destinations for everyone to enjoy.”

The direct weekly flights to Tucson, one of the sunniest cities in the U.S., will begin in December. The American city is located in the Sonoran Desert and experiences 350-plus days of sunshine a year. It is a favourite destination of snowbirds looking to trade the long Canadian winter for golf, rodeos, and backcountry adventures.

To celebrate the first week of sales, the airport will be offering one-way fares from London to Tucson beginning at $99.

“For most of us that is cheaper than filling our car with a tank of gas,” said McFadzean. “Quite an amazing opportunity to get affordable travel.”

Based out of Edmonton, Flair has a fleet of Boeing 737 aircrafts and serves over 30 cities across Canada, the U.S., and Mexico.

“We’ve seen the demand for non-stop sun this winter and we are pleased to offer an affordable option to London and the surrounding area,” said Flair CEO Stephen Jones. “There is no shortage of national parks, attractions, and vibrant nightlife in Tucson, and we can’t wait for Canadians to get out and explore it all. We look forward to our continued partnership with London International Airport.”

Flights on the new Tucson route from the London airport can be booked now at flyflair.com.
