London’s outdoor, wading pools to open in July, with two exceptions

Londoners will have two fewer options for a refreshing dip in the water this summer.

City officials announced on Tuesday the Glen Cairn Pool and Thames Pool will not open for the season when London’s other eight municipal swimming spots welcome visitors back on July 1. According to the city, structural issues have left the two pools in need of extensive repairs.

“We know this is disappointing news for both communities as outdoor pools are popular destinations for individuals and families during the summer season,” the city said in a statement. “The city will look into options to offer families and individuals living near Glen Cairn and Thames Pool with alternative aquatic offerings at neighbouring outdoor and indoor pool facilities throughout the summer to accommodate for these closures.”

Stronach Pool is already open and the city’s eight other outdoor pools will officially open for the season on July 1, weather permitting.

Parents can book their child in for learn to swim lessons and aquatic leadership lessons through the city’s ‘play your way‘ online portal. Recreation swim schedules can also be viewed there as of next Monday.

The Springbank Park wading pool opens on Canada Day, with the city’s other wading pools following suit four days later.

Ahead of the re-openings, the city is working to hire more qualified lifeguards for the summer aquatics season. Those interested in applying can do so at https://careers.london.ca/.
