London woman charged with fraudulent vehicle purchases

A 45-year-old woman is facing multiple charges coming from a fraud investigation by Windsor police.

Investigators from the Financial Crimes Unit began looking earlier this month into an incident where a vehicle was fraudulently purchased from a dealership on Provincial Road. During the probe, a female suspect was identified.

Constable Darius Goze said that on Friday afternoon, officers from the People-Oriented Policing (POP) Unit and the Target Base Unit caught the woman trying to purchase another vehicle from a business on Tecumseh Road East near Jefferson Boulevard. She was arrested without incident.

The London woman is charged with two counts apiece of fraud over $5000, uttering a forged document, personation to gain an advantage, and possession of another person’s identification.

The charges have not been proven in court.

The Financial Crimes Unit is still investigating and has asked any businesses that may have had similar counterfeit incidents to give them a call.

Anyone with information on this or a similar incident is asked to call Windsor police at (519) 255-6700, ext. 4330, or ext. 4000 after hours. Anonymous tips may be submitted to Crime Stoppers at (519) 258-TIPS (8477).
