Charges in east London shooting upgraded to attempted murder

Charges against a 73-year-old London man have been upgraded to include attempted murder in a shooting that left another man seriously injured.

London police announced on Friday a charge of aggravated assault previously laid against Wilfred E. Pollard in the March 30 shooting at a home on Egerton Street has been upgraded to the more serious offence.

Emergency crews were called to the home just after 4:30 p.m. where they found a 59-year-old man suffering from multiple injuries, including a gunshot wound. He was taken to hospital in critical, but non-life threatening condition.

Police allege two men, who were known to each other, were involved in an altercation that ended with one shooting the other.

Two days after the shooting, Pollard was charged with aggravated assault, discharging a firearm in a reckless manner, handling a firearm in a careless manner, and unauthorized possession of a firearm.

Pollard is scheduled to appear in London court in relation to the upgraded charges next Wednesday.
