Provincial election candidates debate climate in Owen Sound

Owen Sound is the site of an All Candidates Meeting on Climate Change and the Future of the Region.

The Climate Action Team Owen Sound (CATOS), member of the Grey Bruce Climate Action Network (GBCAN) and The Sustainability Project will host the meeting at the Harmony Centre on 4th Ave. East. from 7:00pm to 9:00pm

A news release explained the debate will explore Bruce Grey Owen Sound riding’s local candidates’ thinking and commitment to climate change adaptation and mitigation strategies and policies for the Province of Ontario

The event will be streamed live on The Sustainability Project’s Youtube Channel.

Moderators Odette Bartnicki, former municipal councilor, co-founder of Saugeen Shores Environmental Alliance (SEA) and Bruce County resident and Dr. Sonja Ostertag, toxicologist, ecosystem health researcher and climate advocate from Owen Sound, and their hopes for our local communities as the threat of increasing warming continues to mount.

A media release said organizers continue to pursue participation from the Libertarian and New Blue Parties. Rick Byers, Progressive Conservative candidate, has declined to participate.

Organizers from local Climate Action Teams believe that mitigating and adapting to climate change is an overarching “lens” through which all community issues should be viewed.

As well as the moderated discussion, there will be thirty minutes for moderators to take questions from the floor.
